One of my most favorite things about my husband is his sense of humor. He always makes me laugh. 🙂 But funnier yet is that I make him laugh, which makes both of us laugh. And this humor that we share has sustained us through some challenging times. It got us through the stressful years of immigration paperwork and moving across continents, the financially hard times, the ins and outs of dating across 5000+ miles, and the ups and downs of marriage. I’m most thankful to the Lord that He set me up with a man who can laugh through anything.
I was specifically reminded of this yesterday as we were on our weekly “date”. My mom and sister have been gracious in taking Ryder for us for the few hours that we clean on Sunday afternoons. It allows us to get the cleaning job done much more quickly than when we have Ryde with us. So we’ve jokingly named this time as our “janitorial dates”. We go straight from church to grab a quick lunch (lately it’s been Wendy’s) to then cleaning, yet somehow, we’re able to get caught up on our week. We’re able to have some Mark and Micah time, which does not happen often, and I’ve really enjoyed it. I think I can say that Mark has enjoyed it too. It’s allowed us to remind each other of where we’re headed, where we want to be, and how we’re going to get there. It’s refreshed us from the day in and day out of the every day routine, and it’s allowed us to be a couple, not just the parents of Ryder, but Mark and Micah, a couple.
So as I sit, looking out the window and thinking about this week of Thanksgiving, I have to say that I’m so thankful that a.) God has sustained our marriage. He has blessed us in ways that we never could imagine. He’s given us endurance through hard times, strength in place of weakness, encouragement when we’re down, and always provision when we’ve needed it. He’s been so good to us. and b.) my husband is who he is. I love him more every day, appreciate him more as time goes on, and trust him far more than I ever thought I could trust a guy. 😉 He’s so creative, loving, smart, funny, persevering, and he never complains even though he’s had a year of working almost 7 days every week for the entire year. He works harder than any man I know, and I am blessed to be his wife. Our marriage is stronger than ever, and my husband is what I’m thankful for this year.
