New King James Version (NKJV)
Do Not Worry
25 “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? 27 Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature? 28 “So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; 29 and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30 Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31 “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.
Then once we made our move to the States, bought a house, and had Ryder, these verses became even more significant. So as a wife, mom, household manager, who knows when her kids need diapers, formula, new clothes, food, etc. and how much money is (or isn’t) in the bank, I have had to look at God as our Provision and not what things appear to be, and I’ve determined to not waste another day in worry or stress. And as I’ve made this journey, we’ve had a tremendous amount of answered prayer and great testimonies. With each obstacle that we face, and with every decision to just trust and not worry, God just keeps answering.
So I just wanted to share that we got another answer to prayer last night. I finally decided to just sit down and do a trial run on our taxes. We’ve all been really under the weather this week and doing our taxes was the last thing I wanted to do, but I was ready to face the music and get it done. So my mom sat with me while I punched in the numbers. At first, we owed over $1000 then as we kept entering all of our info, the number slowly started going down. By the end, we no longer owed but should actually get some back. And the whole time, I was just praying “Lord, please let us owe no more than $100 . . . ” Yet my heart’s prayer has been that we wouldn’t owe anything and that we’d get our money from my doctor visits paid back. So by the time we finished the trial run, we discovered we’re actually going to get back almost the same amount that I just paid in healthcare bills. Is that a hallelujah, praise the Lord, God is good, or what?!!! Two answered prayers in one go. 🙂
God really does ask us to take His Word seriously. And when we do, when we apply it to our circumstances, when we choose to look at Him only and not what things appear to be, then He works it out. He keeps His Word for He is a promise keeping God. How good is that?! So my little family, my parents, Hav, and I all did a little hallelujah dance last night as we rejoiced in God’s love and favor.
