[dropcap style=”font-size: 60px; color: #9b9b9b;”] I [/dropcap]f you haven’t heard the song “10,000 Reasons (Bless the Lord)” by Matt Redman, I would encourage you to listen (below). This song is lodged deep down in me as it so reminds me that in everything we can choose to bless the Lord. To bless is to honor as holy. And He is indeed holy. I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately as our circumstances have been more challenging than usual. Nothing within me has wanted to get out of bed in the morning as I’ve had very little excitement about going to my job, taking care of little ones, dealing with tantrums and whining, having to cook, clean, do laundry, and basically just work from 7am to 9pm every single day. I’m tired. I am worn out. And yet God still sweetly speaks, and as I’ve questioned Him about this circumstance and that thing that bothers me so, He’s been answering in unusual ways. He is constantly reminding me to bring it all to Him and to lay it at His feet. Everything is safe with Him. So when I hear lyrics that say:

The sun comes up, it’s a new day dawning
It’s time to sing Your song again
Whatever may pass, and whatever lies before me
Let me be singing when the evening comes

Bless the Lord, O my soul
O my soul
Worship His holy name
Sing like never before
O my soul
I’ll worship Your holy name

You’re rich in love, and You’re slow to anger
Your name is great, and Your heart is kind
For all Your goodness I will keep on singing
Ten thousand reasons for my heart to find

Bless the Lord, O my soul
O my soul
Worship His holy name
Sing like never before
O my soul
I’ll worship Your holy name

And on that day when my strength is failing
The end draws near and my time has come
Still my soul will sing Your praise unending
Ten thousand years and then forevermore

Sing like never before
O my soul
I’ll worship Your holy name
Jesus, I’ll worship Your holy name
I’ll worship Your holy name

I just can’t help but realize the truth and the wisdom found in the words and in the heart of the songwriter. This is where it’s at. I’ve been on a long journey of learning to praise my way through life, of learning to look for every silver lining possible, and of learning to speak forth what God says, rather than what my emotions or circumstances say. And it all adds up to this: choose to bless the Lord at all times. He is good. His love is tremendously huge. And He has done so much for us; why would He leave us in a pit or why would He not come through? Just bless Him, trust Him, and look at Him. And when all else fails, look for the little moments in life that bring joy. The picture at the top of my oldest and youngest is one from one of those moments. Kisses from God bring those moments. So today, I’m choosing to sing my song to Him. I hope you do too.
